My 5 year old loves this game! While the idea of changing one element into another is more alchemical fiction than science, I love how the game uses the real periodic table (complete with atomical numbers and element symbols) - an opportunity to teach my son about elements and the real periodic table. The "elements" (which are cute blobs with eyes) are all unique which encourages one to "collect them all." My son was very motivated to try to populate the entire table - lots of good gameplay time, with a puzzle solving aspect.
